If something has taken over the entertainment industry in the halls of the Nevada casino, the circus freak.
Since Steve Wynn has built a special exhibition hall at Treasure Island for Cirque du Soleil "Mystere", the trend was non-stop. Of course, there are rooms that have the likes of Donny and Marie or Carrot Top, but there are now six permanent show by Cirque du Soleil shows in Las Vegas.

Yet the trend continues, and there are many contenders - "circus-style productions, playing the popularity. Some are very good, like "The Big Show" at the Eldorado in Reno last year. Others are not, as Eldorado Illuminaire "this year.
Not that "Illuminaire" does not have its moments. There are many here acrobats. Because they are confused in a production that does not know the flow. Most of the show is so awkwardly at the rate the public does not know when to applaud.
One example is the opening, when a woman walks and spread giant wings that serve as screens for projection background music is played (there is no musician), then wanders out before the first act begins. The public is not entered.
The concept of "Illuminaire" is, as the title suggests, that of light. It is an evening of everything and anything twirlable twirling at the same time may be enlightened in some way. Hoops, sticks, ribbons , torches - they are all in. And they are all handled expertly if repetitiously. Unfortunately, it becomes all the deadening after a while.
The sequence an assembly in which the public is fully engaged is a black light interlude, something that has not been seen in productions area shows in a long time. Once ubiquitous in magazines casino, black lights and routines built around them were always crowd pleasers. Not difficult to stage, they created amazing, all these things seem to float as they shone.

The saddest aspect is that these are the only two laughs in the whole production."Illuminaire" evil comic needs. He needs a clown, like the great actor-facilitator who has provided physical interludes in "Le Grand Cirque" or the fabulous talent Toto Castineiras of "Quidam.
