'It was really overwhelming': Lincoln man details Upper Coldstream Pond rescue
LINCOLN, Maine - Gary Perry Jr. has not had time to think.

"One guy was pretty bad. He was crying. We caught and pulled them into the boat," said Perry Jr.. "The guy who was crying saying how he was scared and we were like," You're right. It will be all right now. "We were just trying to prevent him from losing it completely. "
The three men have done much better than that, Lincoln Fire Chief Phil Dawson said. Without their intervention, the two fishermen may have succumbed to hypothermia.
"The challenge was to get out there in a timely manner against the choppy waters and strong winds and plucking two people from the water who were barely able to help themselves in a boat," Dawson said Thursday. "That's life or death, hypothermia. If you do not get in, they will not be able to help themselves in a timely manner and most likely to drown there. "
Gardiner men, aged 36, James Deaton and 19 years, Adam Cobb, were treated for symptoms of hypothermia or hypothermia at Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln and later released, officials said.
