Levy Had All the Luck at the Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Shows
North Salem, NY - Mother Nature gave us good weather for the first week of competition at the Old Salem Farm Spring Horse, but she could not arrive the morning of the Grand Prix, where she gave us in the torrential rains early hours.Given all there in the aftermath, both show management and competitors adjustments and the rain came to an end, the competition went as usual. The only concession to the rain was the movement of classes on the grounds of the Grand Prix ring of sand.
Twenty-four horse and rider combinations entered the ring for the first round of the competition, with 11 making it through the fault-distance free. Eventual winner Kate Levy and Vent du Nord were the tenth of eleven after a faultless performance. She joined the list included a good McLain Ward with three frames, Mario Deslauriers with two, Georgina Bloomberg, Candice King, Katie Dinan, David Tromp and Hillary Simpson.
Seven riders took to the ring before Candice King and Davos Skara Glen posted a clear round. His time of 50.241 reflects a very modest pace.A horse later, Levy, South Salem, NY, posted the only other double clear of the class. His time of 49.328 was good enough to take the victory.
"I was very lucky today," said a delighted Levy. "Anytime you win, you must be a little lucky. I thought I was in the dam, with McLain with three horses and two with Mario, so I do not think I'd be in the top five.
"I went in late to jump and there was one horse that had jumped clear, and Candice had been treated but had not really gone all out in that time has passed. The course was great in places and rode a little difficult. Fortunately, I knew what I had to do. I thought the second, at best, I managed to make a fresh start, mainly because I guess McLain, who was the last in the ring, would win.
"I even was lucky he had a rail at the close of the last," Levy joked. "The weather had some effect on my horse. This is his second time after a month and a half away and he felt a bit in the first round, mainly because it was a bit cooler today. It helped us in the dam, because he still had a lot of gas.It is a very talented horse and I am very lucky to have him. Today was just a fluke. "
Candice King finished second with Davos Skara Glen because of its double clear in a time of 50.241. Mario Deslauriers and his WEG mount, Urico was third posting a round of four second fault in a time of 46.451. McLain Ward finished fourth Vocas with four faults in 47.012, and the fifth with Pjotter Van Zonnehoeve of four faults in 48.771. Deslauriers was sixth with Vicomte D, four fouls in 48.775 followed by Ward in seventh place with Oh "Aeolus also carrying four faults in 48.928. David Tromp finished eighth with Casey, Louis K2 and Georgina Bloomberg, finished ninth, Katie Dinan and Amoroso finished tenth and Hillary Simpson and Du Gue Nopus Joubert, with eight points, finished eleventh.

I had some extra money from Christmas gifts and I wanted to splurge on something I didn’t need but knew that I would love to have. This table saw fence gauge is great. I can zero it whenever I want with different blades, dado stacks and even on my router wing. I think it’s great I can make routered dados and accurate distances without much thinking. You can switch between absolute measurements (from zero with blade) to short term measurements if you just wanted to cut 1″ strips or something. It zeros quickly and keeps its measurement if it’s on or off. If it is off and I move my fence, when I turn it on it knows where it should be. I’m no engineer so I haven’t gotten the dial indicators out, but it seems very true.
Also with my G1023SLWX I did not have to drill any holes. The fence fit on the existing bolts for my Shop Fox Classic fence. I have about 1/16″ clearance on the digital display…basically perfect. I also was able to use the supplied magnet bracket that connects to the fence. A little shaping in my vise and we were on the way. I didn’t drill anything with my Grizzly table saw with Shop Fox Classic fence.
The negative: the barrier that slides on the Index is two pieces of aluminum. I had the squares (used a disc sander and file) to both connect them together and file any strawberries that attract the camera. I guess they could quite easily square and would make things much easier.
I agree with someone on Amazon ... 1 / 1000 "is almost too much. I think 1 / 64 with direction indicators to the nearest 1 / 32 would suit almost everyone. I put a fraction of digital conversion chart on my bench just to remember.
I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could only because it’s not perfect out of the box, but it is now.
Just installed this item onto my Jet table saw. It was quite easy to do so, even though the instructions are overly simplified. Here are a few comments that may be helpful:
1) This product would be much better if the rail came as one piece instead of two. Assembling and aligning the two halves is awkward and time consuming. Supplied assembly screws are to short to use with a washer, which would help in assembly and alignment. I assembled the two halves as carefully as possible, clamping the two halves to a straight edge, etc. but they still didn’t align correctly. I had to sand and file and fit. Even then, where the two halves meet, one half of the scale was a bit higher than the other. I could never get this just right. The readout slides over the joint without difficulty, and readout numbers seem to remain accurate, but you can feel and hear a slight bump as it does so, which is a bit unsettling.
