Microsoft Exchange 2010 Balanced by Kemp

VLM-exchange could be useful for organizations that find their growing needs beyond what a single Exchange server can handle, "said Peter Melerud, Vice-Chairman Kemp of product management. It would allow the organization to set up a second server to help manage traffic.

VLM-exchange could also play a role in increasing the availability of Exchange services by allowing an organization to set up redundant servers that can handle the traffic should the primary server fail. And this device responds to a virtual configuration problem faced by administrators to upgrade to the latest version of Exchange, Exchange 2010, which does not allow load-balancing internal Microsoft clustering technology and business to be used on the same server.

This new version technology Kemp was first published as a unit a month ago that LoadMaster-Exchange for Microsoft Exchange 2010. LoadMaster-Exchange is a version of the Kemp Load Balancer for general purposes, Loadmaster 2200, which was configured for Exchange.

The package is pre-configured for a number of virtual services: access based client handling RPC (Remote Procedure Call), one for the establishment of a Hub and Edge Configuration for SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) and for running Web services such as Outlook Web Access, Outlook Anywhere and ActiveSync.

VLM-Exchange running in a Hyper-V virtual machine, which should be ideal for organizations that have already deployed Exchange or other software in virtualized environments Hyper-V.

"Exchange works very well in Hyper-V hypervisor, so there will be a significant number of [our] customers deploying Exchange on the top of Hyper-V," said Melerud. "Companies can just create another virtual machine in their Hyper-V environments."

This version also addresses another problem that directors may face when moving to Exchange 2010, we met if they run multiple Exchange servers in a single instance, with a sort of balancing workload equal to distribution of each machine. For the first time with Exchange, administrators can not run the Microsoft Windows Server functionality own internal load balancing, called Load Balancing (NLB) and Microsoft clustering technology on the same server. This change is problematic for organizations that need clustering technology to manage multiple Exchange servers as a single service.

"In prior versions of Exchange, you do not need an external load balancer. You could use NLB. In Exchange 2010, you must have an external load balancing device," has Melerud said.

Setting Up a Home Server Spam Email-proof (somewhat alternate) (lucid) Introduction

Email spam is a huge problem. I found myself with a simple solution, but it will take some time to "migrate" it completely.

The solution is to create an e-mail every single time I have to give an e-mail to someone else or for a website to register. If I want an account on twitter, I use "@ MYDOMAIN.COM www.twitter.com. For web-based services, I use the domain name included. subdomain (www) on the left of the @ sign (some poorly designed sites do not recognize the www.that the e-mail valid for those I have let far).

For those I use a format like this: "@ email.john.doe MYDOMAIN.COM. You can also use as "from.john.doe @ MYDOMAIN.COM. The good thing is, the left side of the @ sign for e-mail is almost "unlimited".

Because I generate email addresses for each contact, I can easily tell where my e-mail received flight and then I can easily remove it.

This guide will set up a mail server complete with functioning based scripts to make mail management easier. It also includes some DNS configuration - even if you're on a dynamic address - for exampleif you want to run your own little home server.

Summary

In this tutorial I use Debian Squeeze as a server. For other Linux distributions, you need to make changes in your opinion.

A short summary of what is being done in this howto is like this:

Obtaining a domain name Taking care of a dynamic ip - if necessary Taking care of the dns and routing Setting up postfix Setting up procmail Setting up dovecot Setting up webserver for email address management Setting up Thunderbird with addon

Credits

In this howto I also relay on a few other howtos here - especially regarding the setup of the bind and email server. For those, I copied more or less from Falko's Perfect Debian Server howtos. Also the email relay section was borrowed from a howto here by sjau. Without those, I probably would not have been able to set this up.

Obtaining a Domain Name

Before you can start running your own mailserver you need a domain name for which you can also set MX records. I don't want to make any suggestion as there are tons and tons of domain registrars out there. One of the cheapest I know of is GoDaddy .

I don't use GoDaddy myself but as far as I've heard they provide a solid service.
