Some hotel chains see big business after hail storm

Since the storms of nearly three weeks ago, Knoxville has been flooded with claims adjusters, roofers and construction workers. So that equates to some hotels very excited.

The storm that was sad and frustrating for many has led to the packed hotel, restaurants and good business for some. Some chains West Knoxville hotel says it's something they have not seen for some time.

Comfort Suites was filled with guests. The hotel off Campbell Station Road is full with insurance adjusters, roofers and construction workers.

"Its a sad situation, but for the local hotels it's been a great economic impact," said the Director of Sales, Debbie Pyne.

Pyne said ever since the hail storm, her hotel has been maxed out. About 40% of the guests at the Comfort Suites in West Knoxville are working on storm damage.

"We've turned several groups away cause we just don't have occupancy," said Pyne.

It's the same story from hotel chain to hotel chain in West Knoxville. Companies have booked rooms for 30 to 60 days out.

The Holiday Inn on Cedar Bluff sees on average 25 more rooms booked per night.

"Yes we feel bad for all the damage was done and everyone who suffered the disaster of dollars, but what a blessing this additional income and the tax will bring in the economy," said Holiday Cedar Bluff Inn, sales manager, Bonnie Hall.

Hotels are oddly grateful for this economic boost. And not only in their hotels, with more people in Knox County, more money is being spent all around.

"Everyone is going to spend a few hundred dollars per day and this is just additional tax revenue they bring in this area," said Hall.

Officials with hotels inform travelers who have parents headed to Knoxville in the coming weeks to start calling now and call ahead before trying to book a room.
